A Canadian Flag flies over Cheops

Hi Everyone,
Chris asked me to send a certain picture to include in this site. I took it in 1979 when a lot of you were there. Claude Parent (No relation to Brad...at least I don't think?), Mark Davenport, and I skipped school one day and took a very large Canadian flag to Giza. We climbed the Cheops pyramid and planted it on top. Then climbed back down to take a picture before going back up to retrieve it. It was up there for a good 2 hours. We never thought anything really about it except it was original and probably no one had done anything like that before.... at the time? "It Was Cool!!" LOL

Months after that, my parents had a party. Claude's parents were there. Claude's Father worked for the Canadian Embassy and saw the picture hanging in the house.... It seemed, that flag could be seen for a great distance that day. The Egyptian Government was not amused. Claude's Father and The Canadian Government had quite a lot to answer for. Apparently, many letters were generated over many months! LOL.... For a great deal of years I wondered what ever happened to that Canadian Flag. I always thought it would have been quite a treasure. AND? whomever had it?... Had completely no idea of it's history.

NOW!... A few years back, Chris and the rest of the Parker Clan came up to Lake Louise from Jacksonville to go skiing. My Brother, Mike, and I met them there for a couple days skiing. Chris and I got talking and somehow this story came up. We compared notes. Chris acquired a Canadian flag from Claude in lieu of money owed.... Claude never told Chris anything about it..... as such this ironic complete story never came together for anyone until just that time in Lake Louise. We got a great laugh out of it. I hope you all do as well :)

Here is the picture. It is not the clearest but what can you expect of a cheap Polaroid picture 25 years old.

Here is Buddy Steve with MY FLAG!! LOL.... Please don't forget me if you all need to find another good home for it! :)
I do approve of the care and attention it is receiving to date!

I hope you all enjoyed this little tale from our days in Cairo. Many of you have equally interesting stories. I know because we all lived them.
Take Care and Talk to you soon!

Brady :)
